Learning through observation

Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu and Shinobi Techniques

Observe before acting: distance, angle, balance and control.

Togakure Ryū Ninpō techniques are not based on opposing force with force. When facing an attack, the first priority is to perceive the trajectory, distance and moment when the opponent commits.

In this knife-training situation, movement allows the practitioner to leave the line of attack while maintaining a favorable position. Controlling the armed arm, the angle and the opponent’s balance gradually reduces their ability to continue the attack.

Taijutsu is the foundation of this study: posture, movement, distance, balance breaking and adaptation must work together. The weapon does not change these principles; it simply makes the need for precision and efficient movement more obvious.

Ninjutsu Kyoto videos allow viewers to observe these principles in empty-hand practice, knife work, sword, hanbō, Kamae, Ukemi, Taihenjutsu and shinobi movement.
